The Accounting Manager’s main duties are to attend to the daily financial operations of the business of the Conservatory. This includes but is not limited to oversight of the major outward facing functions of the department: payroll, payables, and accounts receivable. In addition, prepare journal entries and audit reconciliations for additional assigned accounts, prepare tax returns, and assist with preparation of statutory reports. This individual reports to the Controller.
Provide oversight and direct supervision to Payroll and Receivables (College, Preparatory School, and School of Continuing Education functions).
Supervise 4 individuals including the Payroll Accountant, Accounts Receivable Accountants, and Business Office work study student.
Oversee daily cash management requirements.
Prepare and input monthly journal entries for areas in which you are responsible and approve entries for those you supervise.
Work with Financial Aid Office to oversee and keep records of international students and employees with respect to their eligibility to receive payments from NEC using the Windstar software. Forward tax withheld from them to the IRS in a timely manner.
Consult on any payments made to international students and guests through accounts payable in regards to required tax withholdings.
Process payables transactions that require wire transmission.
Lead 403(b) audit including coordinating with Audit team and Human Resources staff. Draft corresponding return, financial statements and notes.
Complete statutory tax filings including 1098-T, 1042, 1042-S, 5500 and coordinate submissions with Controller and external tax professionals.
Coordinate Conservatory’s various credit card vendor relationships.
Maintain declining balance and meal programs with Conservatory’s ID card vendor.
Oversee maintenance of monthly and year-end reconciliations for various accounts.
Compile information including notes for annual financial statement audit related to primary responsibilities.
Participate in internal committees including Audit Committee, Finance, and Retirement Planning Committees.
Other duties as assigned.
MBA or MS in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience in public accounting or working with computerized general ledger systems.
Experience with payroll processing; specifically, with ADP is a plus.
Prior experience with accounting software required. Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge software is a plus.
Experience with Windstar Tax Navigator software is a plus.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and aptitude for learning knew software.
Willingness to use your personal cell phone for dual factor authentication system access.
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
