Job Overview:
Reporting to the Controller, and working closely with the entire Business Office Staff, the staff accountant maintains and compiles financial reports and statements in compliance with government regulations and requirements. The role includes analyzing balance sheet accounts, managing general ledger accounts, updating information related to the financial statements, maintaining accounts payable, assist in the payroll process, preparing financial reports, and to assist in evaluating financial performance by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts. Assist with accounts receivable in coordination with Bursar's Office. Asssist with accounts payable to help invoice processing.
Essential Functions:
Monitors revenue and expenses for departmental or unit accounts; ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, College policy, and standard accounting procedures. Constructs routine spreadsheet applications, prepares financial data for input into finance systems, and generates reports; performs calculations which may include interest and depreciation. Coordinates the preparation of regularly scheduled and special billings, costs reports, analyses, studies, inventories, various other reports. Analyzes, reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records; assists with budget and special financial reports. Reviews, and processes budget, revenue, expense, payroll, and related correcting entries and may prepare bank reconciliations. May assist in audit activities. Enter credit card detail into colleague and assist accounts payable in getting invoices in the system Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Prepares and maintains daily cash flow report
Qualifications:
Mathematical aptitude and interest in finance High level of attention to detail Analytical skills Strong organizational skills, proactive approach Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills Maintain confidentiality Ability to multitask Strong computer skills including Excel, Word and accounting software Colleague (desirable) Team player
Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting. Bachelor's degree in a related field with relevant experience considered.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Familiarity with financial processing and reporting systems Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with students, colleagues, and external constituents Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Occasional evening and some weekend hours required.
