The Controller’s Office is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team. Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, this position performs a variety of tasks in various accounting functions, including fixed asset, grant, gift, and investment accounting, as well as providing support to the Accounts Payable and Receivable functions of the Controller’s Office.
The mission of the Controller’s Office is to collect, process, and report financial information about Stonehill College to internal and external decision-makers and to ensure that the College complies with all federal, state, and regulatory financial guidelines. Our team supports the mission of the College by providing effective and efficient services in the functions of Accounts Payable, Treasury Management, Payroll, Endowment & Restricted Funds Management, and all other accounting matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
General Accounting
Preparation of journal entries and related support.
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and work papers.
Assisting with various external reporting cycles (annual financial statement audit, tax filings, Dept. of Education, and NCAA filings).
Fixed Asset Accounting
Maintain the College’s fixed asset database.
Monitor all capital expenditures, preparing quarterly capitalization and depreciation.
Prepare all fixed-asset-related financial statement disclosures and audit support.
Maintain and implement procedures and best practices for fixed asset accounting.
Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable Support
Provide support to end-users of the College’s payment processing systems.
Perform monthly audits of corporate card spending for policy compliance.
Maintain compliance with Massachusetts’ unclaimed property rules.
Restricted Fund and Investment Accounting
Collaborate with the Office of Research, Grants & Sponsored Projects on grant management, including journal entry processing, financial reporting, invoicing, and compliance. This includes assistance in the preparation of related financial statement work papers and disclosures.
Preparation of gift and pledge analyses.
Assist with the accounting for the College’s investments and endowment.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
1-3 years of accounting experience.
