Job DescriptionThe Staff Accountant reports to the Manager,Tax & Financial Compliance, and provides assistance on a wide range offinancial accounting, reporting, and administrative activities to ensureadherence to state, federal, and international tax laws; also preparescomprehensive tax work papers, researching various tax topics while maintainingtax return records and reports, gathers documentation and prepares responsesfor the Manager's review related to tax audits. In addition, the StaffAccountant will assist with the preparation and timely filing of the University's990 tax return, review of unrelated business income and other reporting issuesfor the 990T return and any related foreign filings.
The Staff Accountant will oversee the University's foreignwire transfer process, including review of foreign wires for potentialinternational tax compliance issues as well as coordination with requestingdepartments and the University's external service provider. Similarly, thisposition will act as a liaison with the General Counsel's Office, HumanResources, and other Finance departments to help ensure compliance with IRS,federal and state rules and regulations. Additional responsibilities will consistof assistance with vouchers/requisition approval as well as year-end accountreconciliations.
RequirementsThis position requires a Bachelor's degreein Accounting; CPA and MBA preferred; detail-oriented with strong statisticaland analytical skills; demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted AccountingPrinciples (GAAP) and a solid understanding of IRS, federal, and state taxrules and regulations
Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience basedon the following:
Staff Accountant: 3 to 5 years of progressivelyresponsible business, accounting and tax preparation experience, preferably ina higher education setting or related work with a public accounting firm: $68,100 - $85,150
Senior Staff Accountant: 5+ years' experienceaccounting and tax preparation experience, preferably in a higher educationsetting or related work with a public accounting firm: $75,100 - $93,950
